At present, there are two common EV charging piles on the market, one is DC charging pile, the other is AC charging pile.

DC charging pile: DC charging pile is fixed in some public places outside the electric vehicle, such as residential areas, residential parking lots, commercial areas, service areas, outdoor parking lots, electric vehicle charging stations and other places. It is a charging device that provides DC power for off board electric vehicle batteries by connecting to the public power grid. Because the DC charging pile can directly charge the battery of the electric vehicle. Generally, the three-phase four wire system or three-phase three wire system is used for power supply. The output voltage and current can be adjusted in a wide range, so it can realize rapid charging of the electric vehicle. Therefore, the DC charging pile is also called fast charging. Due to the large output power of DC charging pile, the general specifications include 30kW, 60kW, 80kW, 120kW, 150kW, 180kW, etc.

AC charging pile: AC charging pile is also a power supply device that is fixedly installed in some public places outside the electric vehicle to provide controllable one-way AC power or three-phase AC power for the on-board charger of the electric vehicle. It should be noted that the AC charging pile itself does not have charging function. It only provides power output, and can charge the battery of electric vehicles by connecting the on-board charger of electric vehicles. As the power of the on-board charger of electric vehicles is generally small, the AC charging pile cannot realize fast charging, so the AC charging pile is also called slow charging. The output power of AC charging pile is not very large, generally 3.5kW, 7kW, 15kW, etc.

Difference: There are two differences between DC charging pile and AC charging pile. 1During charging, the DC charging pile can directly charge the battery of the electric vehicle, so there is no need for an on-board charger, while the AC charging pile cannot directly charge the battery of the electric vehicle, so an on-board charger is required. The second is the difference of charging time. The charging speed of DC charging pile is fast. Generally, it takes only tens of minutes to two or three hours to fully charge the electric vehicle battery, while the charging time of AC charging pile for fully charging the electric vehicle battery is much longer, which generally takes about eight hours.
